July 1st 2006 saw the launch of Marina Developments Ltd latest IT innovation. ‘Marina Wide Wireless Internet Access’. At 8AM on the 1st of July the new service went live to thousands of berth holders across the south of the United Kingdom.
When it comes to successful marina operation, no other company has more experience or offers greater expertise than MDL. Established in the 1970s, MDL is now Europe’s largest marina group. Currently they own and operate 18 major marinas and boatyards, and manage over 6,000 berths. MDL are focussed on customer satisfaction, now and for the future, and are intent on looking at ways of improving their services and facilities.
As such, MDL recently contracted Newton Abbot based WiFi SPARK Ltd’ for the provision of wireless internet services to all of their marinas. The criteria for selection being based on quality, flexibility, reliability and support. “We are honoured that MDL has chosen WiFi SPARK for such a high profile project” said Matt O’Donovan, Managing Director. “Having worked with MDL for the last two years in trials its great to see the system fully launched and the take up so impressive”.
Specialist Service
The WiFi SPARK system integrates seamlessly with the MDL berth holder database allowing berth holders to ‘authenticate’ by using their ‘Club Outlook’ cards. Berth holders are able to benefit from 50 free hours per season and after that may take advantage of the industries most competitive pricing for marina based WiFi.
Roaming and security
MDL berth holders can use their WiFi service at any of the MDL marinas knowing the system they connect to uses the latest security measure to prevent unauthorised users viewing their data.
Information Portal
When users access the service they will be greeted by The MDL Portal Page. This page will be the springboard upon which offers and information will be placed for berth holders and visitors.

WiFi SPARK are fully committed to the new service and are pleased to provide customer email and telephone support (on 0845 local rate numbers) to ensure that customers get the support they need seven days a week 8AM to 6PM

Having provided a solid foundation of internet connectivity the future for new applications and services is protected. MDL and WiFi SPARK have a number of new innovations which will be rolled out in the coming months to further promote MDL as being at the forefront of the marina marketplace.
