Plymouth Argyle Broadband WiFi Access

August 2006 saw the installation of a multi node broadband wireless internet access system for Plymouth Argyle at their Home Park stadium in Plymouth.

Providing fast and secure internet access the system was originally defined to support the needs of the press and photographers who require a fast and reliable means of transferring copy back to editors or bureau service web sites. With nodes installed in the main stadium, study centre and media centre the service is also available to anyone with a laptop, PDA or WiFi equipped mobile phone.

“We needed a system that was managed for us, reliable and secure. Our previous supplier simply did not meet those requirements so we selected WiFi SPARK Ltd.” Commented Geoff Edwards, Club IT Manager. “It was also important for us to be able to get support seven days a week and WiFi SPARK are able to offer this at local call rates”

As well as proving internet access in the press box on the terraces, the service also extends coverage to the whole pitch allowing photographers to have truly mobile internet access.

“This installation is significant for our company” explained Matt O’Donovan – WiFi SPARK’s managing director “We are focussing now to replicate this type of service in other football and rugby clubs where we cleary have a market leading product and the support service to back it up”

HotSpots such as the ones installed at Plymouth Argyle can be deployed quickly and at minimal cost. With the standard WiFi SPARK Ltd revenue share model the service can generate significant revenue as well as proving a valuable new service for the club.
